Unstoppable Points: A rewards program for Unstoppable users

The goal we had for unstoppable points was to design an MVP for a web based rewards program to reward Unstoppable domain users with Unstoppable Points for interacting with Unstoppable domain products.

Client:

Unstoppable Domains

My role:

Lead designer, UX Design

Why did we want to create a Reward system?

The decision to create a reward system stemmed from the users' need to find ways to maximize the value of their unique domains within the Unstoppable ecosystem. They lacked incentives for their interactions within the web3 world and sought a solution to enhance their overall experience and engagement. The goal was to introduce a program that would automate the rewarding process, fostering a more prosperous and interactive environment within Unstoppable products.

What was the plan?

The approach We had in mind included identifying existing user activities on their domains and devising a system to assign points to these activities. By presenting the finished product to the users in an engaging manner, it should encourage them to participate in the designated tasks and earn rewards.

Information Architecture

It was a challenge at first but I successfully deconstructed the concept and formulated an Information Architecture for its implementation.

Our first step - The Entry Point

In trying to decide the best way to design the entry point we discovered a problem, Overloading the header which would create a confusing entry point

After much consideration and compromise, we ultimately settled on incorporating three main entry points:
1. a banner,
2. a prominent action element within the account's dropdown menu, and
3. a callout section within the landing page.

Beyond the entry point

As the Lead designer, I recognized that implementing a new rewards system for our users would pose significant challenges but by Collaboratively efforts, we brainstormed ideas and made informed decisions to guarantee a successful design.

Clicking on the "start here" button unveils a wizard flow that guides one through the intricacies of the reward system. A unique aspect of this flow is the immediate reward given upon completion of the initial task

Upon finishing first task, users obtain an in-depth overview of the reward program, highlighting essential elements of the reward page as well as visuals to assist in understanding diverse reward categories. This streamlined method eases navigation for newcomers, allowing them to adapt to the product capabilities and guaranteeing readiness for the next tasks they attempt.

Reward alert

To improve the motivation of using the rewards program we needed a way to alert users for when they get rewarded. With this, we were able to create a positive feedback loop to enhance the overall experience and encourage more exploration.

Challenges and failures faced after launch

Upon the release of the MVP of our Reward Feature, we eagerly awaited feedback on its usage. Unfortunately, it did not drive the anticipated engagement. We were able to estimate about 25% increase in user retention at the earlier launch but it slowly went down. This was due to a lack of understanding of the broader market direction and the priorities of our revenue-generating user base. We discovered that the majority of our users were more interested in accumulating rare domain names rather than actively building their digital identities. As a result, fewer users voluntarily engaged with the reward program, often performing tasks without realizing their involvement.
